Favourable weather
The weather was regularly sunny and drier than average until the end of August, except for some well-targeted precipitation in mid-July and mid-August. The cool nights at the end of ripening, in August and especially September for Grenaches and Mourvèdres ensured an excellent synthesis of aromatic precursors and phenolic compounds as well as the preservation of a good natural acidity. The drought has prepared perfectly healthy harvests. This quality was guaranteed by an ideal weather during the harvest time: dry and windy.
A fruity and balanced vintage, conducive to ageing
The red wines of Châteauneuf du Pape vintage 2006 were generous, fruity, structured and very coloured. Their beautiful freshness has given them the balance and potential they reveal today. The colour is of intense garnet with golden brown reflections. The bouquet of aromas shows the development of the characteristic red and candied and brandied fruits accompanied by fine leathery and woodsy notes.
The warm and subtle roundness paired with the long and velvety persistence of the ripe tannins, refreshed by a beautiful natural acidity, make this old vintage a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape to be appreciated now or to be kept for a few more years. Its mature characteristics combined with beautiful youthful impulses offer great possibilities for combining food and wine: red meats in sauces or even grilled, aged cheeses.
