Its vineyard is located under the upper village of Cairanne in the north of the Vaucluse (in the Dentelles de Montmirail region), between the Aygues and the Ouvèze. 1088 ha of the municipality are classified as Cru and produce red and white wines.
Its origins go back to Antiquity. It was cultivated successively by the Gauls and the Romans before falling partially to sleep. It experienced a formidable rise in the Middle Ages, extending from the outskirts of the village to the vast surrounding plains, under the orders of the Templars, the Hospitallers and finally the Popes.
