Vacqueyras comes from the Latin "Vallea Quadreria" (Valley of Stones).
Located in the south of the Côtes du Rhône (Vaucluse) , the appellation covers two communes: Vacqueyras and Sarrians, on the left bank of the Ouvèze, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The vineyard covers wide terraces formed by the Ouvèze, between 60 and 100 metres above sea level, where there is a soil of rolled pebbles of sandstone and flint mixed with limestone fragments.
