Chateauneuf du Pape red and white 2005, an exceptional vintage for Grenaches

The white and red wines of Chateauneuf du Pape vintage 2005 have benefited from a succession of ideal climatic phases throughout the vine cycle, up to the harvest.

Constant sunshine, an abundance of Mistral and cool nights in summer, strong but not excessive temperatures produced an extraordinary vintage.

The strong freshness of the nights of August has preserved the acidity and thus the freshness of the grapes, contributing greatly to the quality and potential of this anthology vintage, both on reds and whites.

All maturities were optimal before the Ban des Vendanges, on September 9th.

The quality of these harvests in perfect health was enhanced by low yields, favouring the concentration of sugars to balance the exceptional acidity.le.

The white wines of Chateauneuf du Pape vintage 2005 were in their youth very balanced between richness and freshness, both as intense as the other. The floral and fruity notes, yellow fruits and citrus fruits abounded, demonstrating both elegance and concentration. The evolution has taken place in harmony and nuances, displaying notes of honey, precious wood and sweet spices mixed with candied fruits and citrus fruits. An always very fresh persistence and a caressing roundness dress a long finish on spices and dried and jamed fruits. Fish cheeses and white meats will highlight it, as well as a creamy and slightly sweetened dessert, topped with spices.

The red wines of Chateauneuf du Pape vintage 2005 presented exceptional concentrations of Grenaches and Mourvèdres in their early years. Intense, generous and velvety, these wines with aromas of plum and candied fruit, liquorice and roasting presented a beautiful range structured by solid and coated tannins and freshness. They have evolved in nuances and finesse. The bouquet was enriched with tertiary aromas of leather, spices and undergrowth. The tannins have melted to cover the mouth of velvet while the freshness of the beginnings is still present.

It can be drink now but has also some good years of ageing potential. Combining youth and maturity, this Chateauneuf du Pape rouge vintage 2005 will be able to pair all kinds of culinary preparations, Grilled red meats or in sauces, preparations made with vegetables and spices stewed in the southern France, Or even some more exotic and savoury dishes, such as a tajine with prunes.
