Vintage 1993

This vintage is a fine example of the relevance of the strict rules governing the appellation, which have allowed to contain the damage that might have been caused by a rainy episode during the harvest.

We had an undisturbed vegetative cycle with late bud burst, associated with a rainy spring that filled the water supply without affecting flowering. There was only a small amount of coulure.

After a hot and dry summer that allowed for regular growth and ripening of the grapes, the vineyard was at its best at the beginning of the harvest. The early budding grape varieties gave good results.

Then a very unfavorable episode towards the middle of the harvest suddenly upset all this, forcing a very strict sorting of the berries. This sorting is mandatory in the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. The winegrowers, who already mastered this technique, were able to achieve an elegant and harmonious vintage thanks to this very demanding practice on the later grape varieties.
