This vintage is a fine example of the relevance of the strict rules that govern the appellation, which have made it possible to curb the damage that could have been caused by a rainy spell during the harvest.
We had an undisturbed growing cycle with a late budburst, combined with a rainy spring that replenished water reserves without affecting flowering. There was very little coulure.
After a hot, dry summer which enabled the grapes to grow and ripen evenly, the vineyards were of optimum quality at the start of the harvest. The early grape varieties produced excellent results.
Then a very unfavourable episode towards the middle of the harvest suddenly upset all that, forcing a very strict sorting of the berries. This sorting is compulsory in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The winegrowers, who have already mastered this technique, were able to achieve an elegant and harmonious vintage thanks to this very demanding practice for the later-ripening grape varieties.
