Châteauneuf-du-Pape 1989 red and white, an ideal vintage from every point of view. A perfect climatic year for the grape varieties and terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A dry, mild winter was followed by good spring rainfall (April to May).
These built up sufficient water reserves for the hot, dry summer that followed to produce excellent ripening and a harvest of exceptional quality, around 10 days ahead of the traditional dates of the time (5 September instead of mid-September). Modest yields produced intense, vibrant colours, rich fruity and floral aromas, complex flavours and a quality of tannin and length on the palate worthy of the legendary vintages of 1947, 1931 and 1978.
These great Châteauneuf-du-Pape whites and reds, full of harmony, balance and power, are now among the most accomplished old vintages of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and still have great potential for development.
