THE ESSENCE OF THE WINE

Générations Gaston-Philippe is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape of exceptional concentration, a symbol of precision, density, and controlled power. It is the result of a rigorous single-parcel selection and ambitious ageing, based on very low yields.

This is a great wine for long ageing, deep, intense, and structured, designed to age gracefully over decades. A heritage cuvée, the estate’s historic signature.

tasting

Produced from the lowest yields of the oldest vines, with grapes meticulously selected and sorted, this prestige cuvée is aged entirely for 12 months in new French oak barrels. This cuvée, a tribute to the family’s grandfather and great-grandfather, possesses exceptional aromatic qualities and outstanding ageing potential.

Appearance : At first sight, its deep, almost inky purple color announces remarkable density.

Nose : It reveals a mineral aroma of blackcurrant and roasted nuts, nuanced with notes of toasted new oak.

Palate : The harmony is youthful, superb in purity and richness, supported by abundant tannins and a broad, lush fruit character. The structure is powerful and deep, with an impression of remarkable concentration.

Advice from the sommelier : Best served at 18°C. Fine dining, red meats (grilled rib of beef, Provençal beef stew, duck breast), robust gastronomy, game (hare saddle, wild boar stew), poultry (free-range chicken with Provençal herbs, chicken supreme with mushrooms), and roasted, stewed, or confit vegetables.

Grape varieties : 1/3 Grenache 1/3 Syrah 1/3 Mourvèdre

Harvest : 100% hand harvest into small baskets with thorough sorting of the grapes. The Syrah is harvested twice in order to obtain optimum ripeness, followed by Grenache and then Mourvèdre.

Terroir: The vines are planted on a mosaic of the greatest Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroirs:
● The rolled pebbles of the Alpine diluvium: body and structure.
● The Urgonian white-stone limestone: minerality and freshness.
● Brown soils and safres: finesse and elegance.

This diversity gives the wine depth, balance, and ageing potential.

Winemaking: Hand-harvested in small crates, reflecting low yields and extremely strict sorting.

Grape varieties are blended in the tank.

Fermentation takes place at high temperature, with punch-downs and extended maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation.

Ageing is carried out exclusively in new oak barrels for 12 months, to support the wine’s density and power.

Potential of ageing : You can enjoy this wine now, decanting it 3 to 4 hours before serving in order to give the exuberant aromas the opportunity to fully develop and to tame the young tannins the tannins. Stored in good conditions, the Gaston Philippe can easily wait patiently 20 to 30 years for the most memorable family dinners and special occasions.
