A hot, dry, sunny summer followed a dry spring with temperatures that were not too high. Rain at the end of the summer prevented too much water stress for the first grape varieties to be harvested. At the end of September, further rainfall helped the late-ripening grape varieties to perfect their ripeness. Harvesting took place mainly between mid-September and mid-October, much later than in previous vintages but more in line with traditional dates. Quantities remained below the maximum authorised, but still above the first decade of the century.
Excellent sanitary conditions produced very colourful, intensely fruity, round and fresh wines with plenty of substance. Quite high levels of malic acid at harvest gave very clean, well-defined tannins after malolactic transformation.
An overall impression of elegance and freshness marked this 2012 vintage in its youth.
Ten years on, it has evolved to retain the liveliness and solidity of its original elegant structure, with aromas that have become finely jammy and developed into a range of jammy, spicy and woody notes.
A rib of beef with pepper or cranberries, finely spiced exotic meat lats or mature cheeses will be its table companions.
